Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
