  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced cooked ham
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil; mix until dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a circle.
  6. In a bowl, mix the ricotta, mozzarella, ham, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and pepper.
  7. Spoon the filling onto one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over and seal the edges.
  8. Place the calzones on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, replace ham with spinach or mushrooms.
  • Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
